Provide a list and brief description of at least seven sources that you have identified for the paper. Two of these must be a primary source document and two must be an academic journal article. These should be specific sources, not just places where you can find sources. The goal here is to see that you have dug in a bit and actually found something that pertains to the issue you will be researching. Annotated bibliographies must be in APA style.
Once you have conducted a search, assess your potential sources first on the basis of their title; second on the abstract; and third on the full article’s content (at least a scan of it). Through this iterative process, you will systematically narrow down your sources to the ones most pertinent to your paper.
Your AB may reflect a shallower, abstract-level review, or a deeper, article-level review. However, the more work you do up front the less you have to do later.
In your paper, you are asked to answer the specific questions listed in your syllabus under Project Descriptions. Review those questions and identify sources that relate to each question for each of your two incidences of state terrorism.
Do, however, refresh your memory on primary vs. secondary sources. Primary sources are usually written by people who witnessed or participated in the events in question, and they usually wrote about them around the time of the event. Secondary sources often analyze events or primary sources at a time/space remove. Using both will allow you to view your issue from multiple perspectives, from “in the thick of things” to “once the dust has settled.”
Also, note the difference between credible and non-credible sources. Any article from a peer-reviewed academic journal or major media source is probably credible. Anything that is crowd sourced (Wikipedia); does not list an author (About.com); or comes from a fringe source is of undetermined credibility. The more credible your sources, the more credible your conclusions.
Finally, When you submit your AB, please number the items and note the item type like this: [primary, journal] or [secondary, media].
