The purpose of required threaded discussions is an interactive dialogue among instructors and students to assist the student in organizing, integrating, applying and critically appraising one’s knowledge regarding the nursing profession and selected area of practice. Scholarly information obtained from current sources as well as professional communication is required. Application of information to professional experiences promotes the analysis and use of principles, knowledge and information learned and related to real-life professional situations. Interactive dialogue among instructors and peers foster the development of a learning community as ideas, perspectives and knowledge is shared.
Discussion Board Guidelines and Instructions: Students will participate in discussion board each week. The student will post an initial response of 300-500 words on or before 23:59 EST of Wednesday each week. The student will then respond to 2 other classmates’ posts by 23:59 EST Sunday. References for posts from the textbooks and peer-reviewed sources are required. Please see the discussion rubric.
To summarize, each week students are expected to:
1. Make your initial post by 23:59 EST on Wednesday.
2. Write a 300 – 500 word initial (first post).
3. Respond to two other classmates’ posts by 23:59 EST Sunday. In addition, monitor your initial post through the week to respond to questions or comments.
4. Include evidence/resources from the text book and peer reviewed journals.
This week in your reading you learned more about health organizations and systems. Please discuss the following information in your discussion board initial post:
- Outline the types of systems (open systems, closed systems) and (microsystems, macrosystems, and megasystems) that you currently work at or at a previous employer if you are not currently employed. When you worked there, did you understand the systems? Do you like working within the systems you identified or would you prefer a different system structure? Outline your experience with systems thinking.
- What opportunity for APRNs through the Affordable Care Act impact your current goals for practice as an APRN?
- Review the case presentation starting on page 41 in your text. What are your thoughts on Maya’s application of systems thinking and her actions? Do you agree or disagree? Would you perform differently if in the same situation?
