5.    Argumentation:

a.    Specific position (thesis/ hypothesis) is stated. Student’s voice (or argument) is clear

b.    A Clear argument made in a logical sequence

c.    The conclusion is logically tied to a range of information, including opposing viewpoints; related outcomes, consequences and implications are identified clearly

6.    The introduction:

a.    Clearly defines the context of the essay unit

b.    Presents an opinion statement

c.    Outlines specific points of reference to contextualize the point of view

7.    Conclusion: the conclusion:

a.    Draws the essay to a close with no new information provided, does not end on a quote.

b.    Summarises key points of the essay

c.    Draws a valid conclusion.

d.    The conclusion should summarise all information in the essay and not introduce new information that has not been discussed in the essay before the conclusion.

8.    Language and Communication skills:

a.    Contains very few errors in grammar, punctuation or spelling.

b.    Language choices are thoughtful and generally support the effectiveness of the communication. Language in presentation is appropriate to the audience and reflect the terminology of the practice or discipline.

c.    Formal academic style and register is used with no slang or colloquial language noted

d.    Evidence of proofreading is evident including lack of spelling and grammatical errors
