- This will be a roughly 700+-word story which narrates a narrowly defined event, or series of events, and which includes some kind of experience engaging with, and learning about, media (movie/TV, book, music, internet, social media, gaming, etc.).
- You also will describe settings, identify and organize key moments, utilize descriptive/sensory details, provide relevant backstory, and present a relatively original thesis statement about the experience.
- The thesis should connect that experience to some aspect regarding the value of media literacy, which (for present purposes) is defined broadly as the development of critical thinking skills through the consumption of mass media “texts.”
- The story should be based on a personal, real-life event that the author experienced or observed at least three months ago, but not more than 3-4 years ago, and which occurred over a relatively short period of time (ideally within a day or two, a week at most).
