Describe the steps in the research design process. Be sure to use specific terminology related to research design
and include a discussion on the steps to effective research design.
How does research design differ from research methods?
Based on the information you researched, how would you develop a plan regarding for data collection and the
database selection process when preparing to create a new initiative?
How important is it for healthcare researchers to use appropriate statistical tools and databases to ensure the accuracy
and relevancy of data?
Use sites such as CDC and Healthy People to find real-world examples of research-based interventions.
Describe how the research was conducted and used to create a healthcare improvement initiative or intervention.
What type of databases might be helpful in helping to conduct similar research?
Research Design steps includes:
Define/Identify the overall aims and approach- by making a choice for research approach whether it’s quantitative that
deals with numbers and statistics, qualitative which deals with words and meanings, or mixed methods that integrate
aspects of both.
The type of design that will be used- For example if quantitative approach, an experiment design to test a cause-and-
effect relationship; Example for qualitative approach, choosing a case study design to dive into a specific context.
How participants are selected- knowing the population the focus is on and how a sample of individuals will be selected to collect data from.
Data Collection methods- will choosing methods of collecting data be by asking people questions directly using surveys or conducting interviews; or will observations be used to collect data in a prominent way.
The procedures to follow- the procedures concern exactly how the chosen design and method will be used. For example, how will variables reliably be measured and what steps are taken in collecting and managing the data?
Data Analysis strategies- how the data will be analyzed will need to be determined. Which may result in choosing
statistical tests that match the variables.
