The video, Children and Covid-19 Vaccines, pediatrician Dr. Danielle Squires answered questions from concerned citizens regarding children 5 and above getting the Covid-19 vaccine. This issue effects the community because the spread of covid can cause many health issues including death. These issues can be combated by helping build immunity to Covid-19 through vaccination. Nurses can help with this issue by educating the public the importance of getting vaccinated and how it will help the pandemic. Another way nurses can help with this issue is by helping administer the Covid-19 vaccine to both children and adults. One parental concern the video mentioned was the the Covid-19 vaccine was too new and not enough research had been done. Dr. Squires answered this concern by explaining that research has been done amongst adults and teenagers and the data can be used to ensure the safety of children. My personal opinion is that children should be getting the Covid-19 vaccine if their pediatrician says it is okay. I believe this can help build immunity within the child but also create herd immunity which can help other children that can not be vaccinated due to certain illnesses. Some side effects mentioned in the video included a sore arm, fever, chills and fatigue which are common side effects from most vaccines. One rare but serious side effect mentioned was myocarditis which is the inflammation of the cardiac muscle. However, Dr. Squires explained that although it has been noted that side effect is rare. It also appears to be more prevalent in people that were diagnosed with covid rather than people who were vaccinated.

Peer Post:
1. In what ways did the video change or challenge your assumptions about human trafficking?
This video shed light on the harsh realities faced by victims, preconceptions, and misconceptions that victims of human trafficking deal with. I would have never assumed that sporting events are the place of choice for victims to be found.
2, What are some signs that someone is being trafficked and how can nurses safely intervene?
Some signs that someone may be a victim of human trafficking are: injuries, signs of abuse, fearful or anxious behaviour, especially in the presence of their worker, the inability to communicate freely or without supervision. Nurse can safely intervene by developing trust with the victim, informing the appropriate authorities and referring victims to shelters, or support groups.
3. What needs should you anticipate that victims of human trafficking will have?
Victims of human trafficking will have a plethora of needs. Theses needs will include treatment of injuries, sexually transmitted infections, chronic health problems resulting from their exploitation, mental health support, likely they will suffer from trauma, depression, anxiety and PTSD. They may also require assistance with housing, transportation, and reunification with their family.
4. How will this impact how you practice as a future health professional?
Learning about human trafficking makes more aware of the the signs and indicators of this crime. Also, it will give me a sense of empathy and understanding, thus allowing me to provide crucial care to sex trafficking victims.
