Required to watch the documentary “Lost Hopes – Shattered Dreams,”
and type up a briefing (3 – 4-page paper, does not include cover and reference pages)
on the documentary that answers the following:
- Give a brief overview of the documentary. What is the documentary about? What is the primary social problem identified? Be specific and
- Which role would you select and why, if you were the Mayor, City Councilor, or Community leader? How would you use your power and influence to change the situation?
- What were your most important “take-aways” from the documentary? In other words, what were some of the important points made by the documentary that you want to remember?
- What connections can you make between the documentary and what we have learned about social change so far? In other words, what material from class is illustrated or refuted by the documentary? Note that connections to other course materials/information should be explicit and well
- Do you see any parallels with the issues discussed in the video to the national conversation we are facing in the country regarding race and equity?
- Briefly critique the documentary. What were the documentary’s strengths and/or weaknesses? Is there anything you disagree with or have concerns about?
