After reviewing the implicit curriculum survey, formulate a research question and hypothesis that can be tested with the data generated from the survey. First, state the independent variable and the dependent variable separately, then describe their association.

Rubric

Identify correct dependent variable – 2 points.

Identify correct independent variable – 2 points.

Identify the correct relationship between the dependent and independent variables – 1 point.

Hypothesis

A hypothesis is a statement that postulates the relationship between the independent and dependent variables in our study. It is a tentative statement about how our variables co-vary together.

Here are some examples:

The more responsive the RU-SSW administration is to student input around issues of diversity, inclusion, or equity (DEI); the more students will feel welcomed and included at SSW.

– The dependent variable is feeling welcomed and included.

– The independent variable is the responsiveness of the SSW administration.

– The relationship is positive.

The more the student participates in the extracurricular activities in RU-SSW, the more that student will feel a sense of community.

– The dependent variable is perceptions about the sense of community.

– The independent variable is the degree of participation

– The relationship is positive.
