Directions: From The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), choose one regular news article, one book
review, and one opinion/editorial (Op/Ed) article. You will be assigned a total of four projects
and you should proceed as follows:
1. Write your name and student #
2. Course Number
3 The Wall Street Journal Weekly

THE WSJ PROJECT HAVE 3 PARTS TO EACH PROJECT; EACH OF THE THREE PARTS
OF A SINGLE PROJECT WILL REQUIRE APPROXIMATELY ½ PAGE EACH. 2. One paragraph
summary for each of the 3 parts within the project; number each article type.
I. Regular Article: (News article) ½ page
1. State the news article that you choose and cite as follows:
Author, “Title of Article,� Wall Street Journal, date and page(s) or online citation.
3. List bullet points of marketing issues you have studied in your marketing classes, such as target
market, reengineering, competition, internal strengths, external issues (political/ legal, social,
economic, cultural, media concerns)
II. Book Review: (1/2 page)
Choose one book review for each or the 4 projects. A book review should not exceed a ½ page.
1. State the reviewer and the title of the review article.
2. Then state the name of the book, the author, the publisher, number of pages and the cost
of the book. (Look for Bookshelf Section on Opinion page: It is usually near the end of
Section A.) The weekend edition of The Wall Street Journal has many book reviews.
3. Give a brief description of the book.
4. Is the review favorable, unfavorable, or mixed? Explain.
5. Would you like to read this book if time allowed? Why or why not.
III. Opinion/ Editorial (op/ed): (1/2 page)
Choose an op/ed article and summarize. (The last pages of Section A usually has
opinion/editorial articles.) Do you agree, disagree, or have a mixed opinion.

Josh Mitchell, “Floor Mats Prompt Largest Toyota Recall,� The Wall Street Journal,
Wednesday, September 30, 2009, p. B3.
Summary:
Toyota Motor Cooperation has stated that the company will carry out its “largest
safety recall ever� because of reports being made that accelerator pedals have
become trapped under floor mats. This problem has caused vehicles to accelerate
even after the driver has lifted his/her foot off the pedal. A safety advisory has been
issued on eight different model cars, urging owners to remove floor mats.

evaluation
