sequence (either simple or expanded) where some form of acceptance or
rejection is the relevant response. Also, within each excerpt you’ll find that a
section has been highlighted in gray.
For each case, comment on the following 3 analytic issues:
1. What type of activity characterizes the sequence overall (e.g., a
request sequence, assessment sequence, etc.)? Justify your
characterization.
2. Focusing on the section highlighted in gray, how does that section
relate to the overall sequence? What is going on there, how does this
bear on the outcome of the sequence, and if relevant how does it
promote social solidarity?
3. What other practices within the overall sequence, if any, have the
effect of promoting solidarity, and how do they do that in this
particular case?
Format: Answer all 3 questions for each excerpt before moving on to the next
excerpt.
Length limit: 800 words. Be concise but as thorough as you can within this
framework.
