“Write a 2-3 page critical reflections based upon an ethnographic engagement outside of the classroom, related to any of the units addressed in the course. Students will be expected to “make senseâ€� of the cultural phenomenon they are exploring by using, at a minimum, the required readings. Other readings from the class can also be brought into the discussion as pertinent. These essays should not be merely descriptive, but rather should demonstrate an ability to critically engage the theoretical concepts and thematic organization of Latin American popular culture that we are exploring in the class. Proper use of footnote citation is required. You can use a movie or a series for your experiential essay. In-line references are fine (for the textbook include the author and page, example (Bermudez, p. 23); for lectures include “Lectureâ€� and the date, example (Lecture, 2/20/23). Use one outside source to inform your paper. In order to get the outside sources any academic book or article from an academic journal is acceptable. Be sure to state who/what/when/where, as well as why it is important.
