Ms. Taylor was killed by police gunfire in March 2020, in Louisville Kentucky, during the execution of a night time search warrant. The primary question from this tragic incident is, what as students in the criminal justice field can we learn from this event? Now that we have discussed the laws governing the execution of search warrants, review the actions of the officers involved to determine what if any tactical mistakes were made that affected the outcome of the case. After viewing the video, address the following:
Did the officers properly perform “knock and notice?” Explain.
Do you believe the time of night the warrant was executed contributed to the event? Explain your reasoning.
In your opinion, did these factors contribute to Ms. Taylor’s death and what if any changes of department policies would you advocate for? Explain.
