Subject: Communications: Media and Society Prompt 1) Journalistic Objectivity: Is it possible to give the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth in a news story? How does truth relate to objectivity? Critically examine the concept of fairness. What is it? How is it defined and operationalized in the media? How would you advise laypersons about how they might judge the fairness of the media in covering a particular story or event?


 Instructions: Write a position paper that stakes your stand on this issue. Your paper must critically engage with relevant scholarship, and craft a thesis-driven argument exploring this issue and the implications of your stand. You are encouraged to use case studies to concretize and / or evidence your claims.

2) Directions: Your goal is to develop a research-based argument substantiated by relevant scholarship (i.e., an applied literature review) and other credible sources. In line with this, you are expected to consult and incorporate recent research (i.e., published within the last 10 years or so) from at least five (5) academic sources (or more) in your essay. 

Formatting: Cite all sources referenced and used in writing the essay. This includes in-text quotations and paraphrasing along with full reference entries at the end of the essay. Please use APA referencing style. Your essay should be approximately 1,300 – 1,600 words in length, excluding the works cited (i.e., references) section at the end.
