Addicted defendants: does the explanation for their condition play a role in the sentence they receive?

 In this research proposal, you are suggested to include the following: • Frontpage • Summary/Abstract • Introduction and theoretical background • The research question(s) addressed by the research + hypotheses • Description of research plan/the research methods to be applied • a reference list (in APA format) As a guideline, the length of the research proposal should be between 1600 and 3000 words (4-7 pages), excluding the reference list and appendices. Master thesis had to be hand in before august. Type of Research: Experimental research using case vignettes Description of Research Internship: Participants will be given a case vignette about an addicted person standing trial for a serious offence. 1. They will receive either no information about addiction (control group), 2. information from an expert indicating that addiction should be seen as a brain disorder (addiction as a brain disorder group), 3. or information from an expert saying that addiction is a free choice and does not make offenders diminished responsible for a crime. After reading this vignette, participants will have to indicate which punishment would be appropriate for the defendant depicted in the case vignette.
