“Please write a short essay (500 words maximum) discussing the following:\r
•\tYour interest and general knowledge level in theoretical physics and mathematics;\r
•\tRelevant courses you have taken in high school, popular science books or articles you have read, extracurricular activities directly related to physics, and any other self-directed learning you have undertaken to further your understanding of physics;\r
•\tOther interests and activities you pursue, outside of physics, that demonstrate breadth of character;\r
•\tWhat you hope to learn or gain from attending ISSYP and your plans for the future, including plans for post-secondary education (e.g. where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?).\r
Background Information about me:\r
1.\tI’m currently taking AP Physics 1 and AP Calculus AB and AP Statistics. For Math, I have a good understanding of algebra, calculus, geometry, and statistics and I have been on the school math team since 10th grade. For Physics, I am also preparing for the physics bowl and I have also learned some part of AP Physics 2 on my own. I’m interested in doing algebra and all kinds of calculus questions for math. For physics, I am interested in mechanics and machines.\r

2.\tI’m taking AP physics 1 at school, preparing for physics bowl and learned part of ap physics 2 on my own. I have read books like E=Mc2: A Biography of the World’s Most Famous Equation by David Bodanis, A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking and Time Travel and Warp Drives: A Scientific Guide to Shortcuts Through Time and Space by Allen Everett and Thomas Roman. \r
3.\tI am interested in making robots, I have been in robotics competitions since very young, I can make virtual robots an actual robot. I am in a physics club and doing a project to design and develop a device that can save school energy costs. It is a device that hangs a heavy mass in the air. During the electricity peak, when electricity prices are higher, the device will let the mass drop and transform the gravitational potential energy of the mass into electric power. Contrary, during the electricity valley when electricity prices are much lower, the device can use electricity to pull the mass back up into the air. Theoretically, the device will save some electricity costs for the school.\r
4.\tI hope to gain more knowledge in physics and improve my skills. I hope I can be in a good engineering program in college and after graduate make better machines and make our lives more convenient.\r
