RESEARCH PAPER ASSIGNMENT: Study of an approved sculpture, group of sculptures or other topics significant to Roman Sculpture. Prior submission of topic, preliminary outline, and bibliography to instructor for approval required by February 10. Final typed text, notes, bibliography with illustrations (must include at least 2 journal articles used in the paper) due on Sunday, April 30th. The research paper should be submitted to the COURSE CONTENT SECTION, RESEARH PAPER ASSIGNMENT, BLACKBOARD LEARNING SYSTEM as an MS-Word attached file with your name and course number as the file name (example: Jones Arh 209 Essay).
Required Paper Format:
Statement of thesis and purpose of the paper.
Significance of the monument(s)/problem(s) to be discussed for the study of Roman sculpture.
Location and history of the monument(s); survival if pertinent.
Description of the monument(s): your own words
History of scholarship on the monument or problem: representative opinions and differences of opinion; your evaluation of the opinions.
References cited: must include at least two journal articles; start with Bibliography in D. Kleiner textbook.
Research Paper Evaluation: Paper must include illustrations with captions describing the content and indicating the source of the illustration. Your work will be checked with anti-plagiarism software. Papers will be evaluated on a numerical 0-100 scale; papers not conforming to guidelines can earn a maximum of 89 points.
