Assignment 5-Value Based Purchasing/Government Incentive Programs

In Chapter 13, government incentive programs such as value based purchasing are discussed.

1. In your own words, describe value based purchasing and why the government/commercial payors developed this model.
2. What is one example of something being measured and later providers are rewarded or penalized for their outcomes with this measurement?
3. Why would it be helpful to measure this function/outcome? What would the improving of this function/outcome better?
4. Do you think value based purchasing is important to the operation of US Healthcare? Why or Why not?
