Objective/What You Will Do: Create a visual mood board to establish a cohesive brand identity for an artist’s social media presence based on the goals, learnings, strategies, and tactics in Modules 1 and 2.
Tools and Platforms You Will Use: Create a free Milanote.com account to access moodboard templates. For this assignment, you may choose any social media platforms that work with Milanote. The students will add 8 to 15 pieces of content to their moodboard based on the artist whose social media presence they observe.

Step 1: Create an Account on Milanote.com
Go to MilanoteLinks to an external site. and click “Sign Up” in the top right corner. Sign up for a free account using your email address.
Note: After completing this step, you can download Milanote for your mobile device. This is optional, but some students may find it helpful to create their Moodboard to add more content while on the go.
Step 2: Create a Moodboard
You will be taken to your dashboard once you have signed up and logged in to Milanote. Click the “+” button in the left vertical menu bar to create a new Milanote board.
Name your moodboard “Assignment 1 – first name.”
Step 3: Complete Your Moodboard
- Open Your Moodboard, select the ‘Moodboard Template” from the dialog box in the lower right, and start adding content to your moodboard. For this Moodboard assignment, consider the learnings from the Online Reading for Modules 1 and 2 and the Real-World Applications in Modules 1 and 2. Add content relevant to these topics to your moodboard.
- You can upload images, add text boxes, embed links/videos, stickers, and more. To upload an image, drag and drop it onto the board or click the “Upload” button.Links to an external site.
- You can also modify the default Moodboard template to add elements such as a text box by clicking on the “Text” button in the toolbar and clicking anywhere on the board to place the text box. Type in your text. To embed a link to a YouTube video, Instagram post, etc., click the “Link” button in the toolbar, paste the URL, and click “Insert.” The content will be embedded on your board. Continue customizing your moodboard by adding stickers, changing the background, moving items around, etc.
- When finished, click the “Share” button in the toolbar to get a shareable link.
Note: Please post between 8 to 15 items from the social media of the artist you are using for this assignment.
Step 4: Submit/Share Your Moodboard
- Copy the public link and post it into the Text Entry box, below, to share your completed moodboard with your instructor/GA.
- Additionally, write in the Text Entry box under your URL, why the content you choose to put in your moodboard relates to Online Branding / Showcasing and Visual Storytelling under the public URL of your moldboard in the text submission area. Be specific and complete in your submission.
Note: As a free user, your moodboard will be publicly visible to anyone with the link. Upgrade to a paid plan if you want to make boards private.
NOTE: It may be helpful for students to download and use the Milanote application on iOS/Android to help populate their moodboards.
- Additionally, the Milanote Web Clipper is a Chrome extension that allows users to save almost any video, image, or text on a website to Milanote, which may be helpful.
- The Web Clipper is available for Firefox and Safari, as well.
