Your task is to write a concise, thoughtful paper that critically analyzes the questions/points below.  Write an essay of 750 to 1,250 words (i.e., 3 to 5 pages) that addresses these questions: 

1. Does the above definition accurately capture everything about the meaning of democracy?
2. In addition, Is the American political system democratic?   
3. Explain how each of the three branches of government and the separation of powers and system of checks and balances have played a part in the American political system. Incorporate the concepts that have been covered in class discussion and readings.
4. What are some ways that our system of government “works” to address collective action issues?
5. What are some ways that our system of government does not “work” to address public problems? 

When addressing these questions be sure to provide substantive analysis and give examples to support your arguments.  In your paper, discuss American political institutions, the U.S. Constitution, political leaders, citizens, interest groups, and/or the media.
