Background
Assignment Foci
- Analyze CHNA Data
- Develop interventions to address population health needs
- Develop a Press Conference to communicate action plans to stakeholders
Assessment Direction – Guidance for advanced performance in this assignment
- Gathering data is just one phase of analysis. It is not enough to describe the data. Healthcare leaders regularly gather, describe, assess, and analyze the data and then develop recommendations.
- Thinking deeply, critically, and analytically is graduate-level work – and what is expected of students with advanced degrees.
- It will not be adequate to just repeat what is mentioned in the CHNA – you will need to integrate the data and your research resulting in innovative solutions.
- Draw linkages, draw conclusions, explore all variables, consider stakeholders both internal and external, and consider the impact of doing AND not doing something.
- Healthcare leaders need to be at ease when presenting information to stakeholders. Their communication must be polished, articulate, and on point for whatever audience is in front of them. Most importantly, they must be able to translate the complex cities of healthcare into compelling stories that engage others and create passion around the topic.
- Although not all healthcare leaders will be required to hold a press conference you will need to communicate key priorities in your unit/department/service line/division etc., the skills involved in developing and conveying information in a press conference will allow you to practice and polish your platform skills. These skills are necessary whether you’re engaging a group of physicians, gaining feedback from a group of nurses, negotiating a contract with a new radiologist, energizing a community group, or working with your team on a project.
Instructions – 7-10-Minute Press Conference- Recorded on Zoom – NEW YORK

Research and Analysis Information
- Choose the community you grew up in or one you plan to work in (so that the work is more meaningful to you) and find the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA)
- You do not need to find or gather new data
- Read and analyze the CHNA carefully including its conclusions and recommendations. Consider these at a minimum:
- What issues is this community facing?
- What groups (stakeholders) are in need of support and targeted programs?
- What are the connections – linkages – between healthcare and public health? How can these stakeholder groups support programs to improve healthcare in this community?
- What programs are a priority – not the topics but programs/interventions/actions?
- Research interventions that will improve the wellness in the community based on the priorities shared in the CHNA and your own analysis
- Find and use 10 unique sources
- Choose 2 priority areas and define the interventions:
- Define the data that supports this is a priority area
- Define the staekholeders
- Define the actions (interventions) that would improve the priority areas identified
- How will you measure success? Metrics – be specific
- What is the metric?
- How often will you measure?
- Who will measure – where is the data coming from?
- Innovative Development of the Press Conference Content:
- Develop a Press Conference Agenda (Brief, Simple, High-level Outline): Develop an agenda for a press conference that lasts no more than 10 minutes. The outline will include what will be discussed – the recommendations for improving wellness and references to where you found this information.
- NO SLIDES
- Share two solutions (one for each priority area identified) for improving the wellness of the community based on the CHNA findings – they must be tied to the CHNA but must be your own ideas
- Research and support with sources (APA Citations) why these solutions are the best options
- Record your press conference and upload the link to the CLOUD recording
- Develop an APA formatted reference list with at least 10 unique and appropriate sources
- Develop a Press Conference Agenda (Brief, Simple, High-level Outline): Develop an agenda for a press conference that lasts no more than 10 minutes. The outline will include what will be discussed – the recommendations for improving wellness and references to where you found this information.
