Literature Review 1D: Capstone Part 1 Conclusions

Directions: In this assignment, you will revise your Literature Review based on earlier feedback and add your conclusions for the best nursing practices from all the articles you’ve reviewed.

Attention: Papers that do not meet the standard of writing at the Bachelor’s level (i.e. correct grammar, spelling, sentence and paragraph structure, APA format) or that do not show revisions for previous sections based on instructor feedback, will be returned ungraded for a redo, which may result in an Incomplete grade for the course. If there are multiple errors, you will get it back to do it over again! Think about this: if you don’t have time to do it right the first time, when will you have time to do it over?

  1. Go back to the beginning of your paper and read it as if this is the first time you read it. You may find it helpful to print it out so you can see the entire paper and compare sections. Does each paragraph have a “theme” and do the thoughts flow from one paragraph to the next without unnecessary duplication? Are the headings consistent with the template and is the right content under each heading and subheading? Look for clarity. Are the results from each article clearly explained under the subheading for Results (or under Recommendations if guidelines used)?
  2. Double check that you have included all the items in the directions for each section and revised the previously-submitted sections based on your instructor’s feedback posted in Canvas Grade Center or emailed to you. If you did this every time you added a new section, then this step will be a breeze.
  3. Proofread the entire paper to make sure it has good sentence structure with appropriate commas, and all grammatical or spelling errors are corrected. Use the word processing software to help you with grammar and spelling (in Word it is under the tab “Review”). Was APA format followed for numbers less than 10? Did you avoid using personal pronouns (I me my)? It may help you to read it out loud or seek the help of an English tutor.
  4. Make sure your references are cited correctly (first and subsequent times). The APA Manual and the handouts provided for 7th edition has a handy chart for how many authors to list. Make sure that all sources cited in the text are included in the reference list. It will help if you print out your paper and check off each source when you verify it is cited correctly in the paper and listed in the references. Verify that references are listed correctly in APA format.
  5. Now you are ready to add the new and final section. Conclusions from lit review should answer “What are the best practices or nursing interventions on your topic?” Were you able to answer your PICOT question? If yes, explain what you found. If not, explain what you were not able to find and what you did find that related to the topic. This should mostly be in your own words, but cite each source at least once to show where your conclusions came from. Did you find similar or different results from each source? If results are consistent, then you can cite more than one source after that conclusion. For example: Nurse-led protocols are more effective in reducing….. (Jones, 2015; Smith, 2014). Paraphrase here; don’t copy/paste!
  6. You will find it helpful to go back to your paper and underline or highlight the key findings from each article (that you wrote under the subheadings for Results and Guideline Recommendations). You may also find it helpful to talk to someone else about what you found in the articles (or audio tape yourself). When you summarize it out loud, you will find that forming the conclusions in your own words is easier.
  7. Create a bulleted list of your conclusions of the best evidence for nursing practice from all the articles you reviewed, including guideline recommendations. Try to start the bulleted items in a consistent format (such as with a verb like assess, monitor, educate….). Remember: Research doesn’t prove anything; it only provides evidence to support or reject a hypotheses (so don’t use the word prove).
  8. Prior to the due date, submit it to Turnitin.com using the Turnitin.com LR link in the prior module and view the Originality report (plagiarism). If the total Originality score is over 35% or any one source is more than 5%, discuss it with instructor, then edit, and repost it to the Turnitin.com link. Your second version will replace your first submission. The Turnitin report will be reviewed by the instructor, but only your final version will be graded. You can disregard the matches for the level of evidence scale, as long as the source is cited at the end of the block quote.

Please see the attachment for the capstone part 1 to write the conclusion.
