Case studies and literature review

Learning Goal: I’m working on a nursing case study and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Case Study: Depression

A 32-year-old female presents to the clinic with a long-standing history of depression. She describes episodic anergia, amotivation, low mood, hypersomnolence, anhedonia, impaired concentration, occasional passive suicidal thoughts, and death preoccupation. These episodes last approximately 2-3 weeks with no apparent provocation. At times, she describes experiencing hyperactivity and difficulty with sleep initiation, sometimes going a period of time without requiring sleep. These episodes have not occurred in a long time, and she has been feeling depressed for the past 3.5 weeks. Medical workups, including thyroid testing and an anemia panel, are unremarkable.
