Twitter is a social media platform that allows ‘public self-expression and conversation in real-time’. According to Forbes, it is ‘an application that provides social networking services and micro-blogging services through mobile devices and the Internet. The company can also be used as amarketing tool for businesses’. It was founded by Jack Dorsey and colleagues in 2006. In 2022 Twitter was bought for $44bn by the entrepreneur Elon Musk. Following this acquisition significantchanges have taken place across the company. A large proportion of the workforce, includingsenior executives have either left or had their contracts terminated. Changes to employeecontracts, employment expectations and working arrangements have also been communicated. Aside from having to address significant financial problems, as Twitter lost $4m a day, since thetakeover advertising revenue has also reduced. As an organisation Twitter continues to assess thecurrent situation as having ‘difficult times ahead’.
