One topic in this course that interested me was a few of the readings at the beginning of the semester, but one in particular was “ Working at Bazooms: The Intersection of Power, Gender, and Sexuality” by Meika Loe. This particular reading interested me because of the way that women were viewed particularly in a work environment. It showed how a workplace structures of power often lean towards men, disparity in salaries between men and women, lack of diversity in areas of decision-making, and biased in work performance. Whatever their sexual orientation or gender, women face harassment, discrimination, and workplace violence. This can be applied in a daily life by being aware of power, gender and sexuality. It could help individuals in recognizing and dealing with stereotypes, biases, and sexist behaviors. No matter a person’s gender or sexual orientation, we can try to be welcoming, polite, and mindful to their experiences in our social relationships and interactions.
