Climate change deniers don’t understand the difference between climate and weather

Assignment Content

  1. You are required to write an essay of no more than 1200 words on one of the following questions:

    1. ‘Climate change deniers don’t understand the difference between climate and weather.’ Discuss this statement using examples from a country of your choice to support your answer.
    2. Outline how ENSO cycles present environmental challenges for those charged with managing EITHER water resources in northern Australia OR coastal erosion on the eastern Australian coast. Your answer should consider how ENSO influences the temporal distribution of environmental conditions and changes, and address how ENSO cycles might complicate the detection of climate change impacts and the development of effective responses to them.
    3. Invasive species are commonly argued to be the main threats to biodiversity in tropical Australia. Using evidence to justify your choice, identify which invasive species should be prioritised by managers of the Wet Tropics Rainforests charged with protecting their biodiversity. Explain why your choice is such a threat and outline potential strategies managers might employ to reduce its impacts.

Please consult the subject outline to make sure you understand what is required in terms of structure, depth, referencing etc. It is also a very good idea to consult the marking proforma to best understand where marks are awarded and lost in essays.

The essay is due at 1159pm on 31 August, 2023. It must be submitted via LearnJCU. Late penalties will be applied as per the University policy.
