1. Compare and contrast the two articles. How are they similar and how are they different? Here you can refer to the type of article (review article, research report, etc), the language learning contexts that each article refers to, the type of study that each article reports on, and the kinds of claims/recommendations that the authors make in each case.
2. How convincing do you find the authors’ conclusions and recommendations in each of the articles? Are they well supported by evidence and logical discussion?
3. Choose a language learning or language teaching setting that you have direct experience with, either as a language learner or as a language teacher (or both). Provide details such as the country, target language, type of institution (e.g. primary school, high school, university, language school, or out-of-class setting). Discuss how specific ideas from the two articles might – or might not – be applicable to language learning in this particular context.
In your critical review, you should focus primarily on the two articles (the set article and the one that you have chosen yourself) relating to the topic option that you have selected. Please refer briefly to at least two additional academic sources to support your ideas in the critical review.
