For this paper, you will be comparing and contrasting a basic science research paper with a clinical trial/study paper on the same topic that you reserached on last week.
Compare/contrast means that you will find areas of similarity (compare) and areas of differences (contrast) between the two papers.
Paper length – 4-6 pages
First, describe the condition and the known treatments (background). This should take about a half a page. You can add in other references here, but it is not necessary.
Second, describe each of the papers. Include what was being studied, what was found out, and what experiments/trials were conducted. This should take about a half page each.
Third, contrast the two papers. What is different about their methodologies? Their sample sizes? The type of questions they ask? The type of results they’re looking for? This is not a restatement of what you said in the descriptions; in this part, you need to explain the “why” of the differences. You should be thinking about the structure of their studies more than the actual information they found. My goal here is for you to be thinking about how these two kinds of research differ. This should be about a page.
Fourth, compare, or look for similarities. Exactly what you just did, but looking for things that are the same v. different. This should also be about a page.
Last, sum up with a conclusion that summarizes and describes how the two different types of studies contribute to an understanding of the same problem, and how they each contribute differently to developing applications to deal with the problem. This should be close to half a page.
