Consider your desired career or if you are unsure you can think about an investment opportunity. Write a 5 paragraph essay explaining how the topics in this course will affect your future career.
First paragraph: introduction on your future career. If you are unsure, choose a goal you think would be fun and research it.
Second paragraph: Which of the five market structures from this course does your career’s industry fit best
into? Explain your reasoning fully using the characteristics given in the lectures and text. If your career
involves government work, it’s often a monopoly and may have public good-like qualities.
Third paragraph: Find two news articles within the last year that will have an effect on the product/service
career or investment. One article should show a change in supply and the other the demand for the
product/service. Cite your article using MLA format at the end of your paper. CNN Money, Google News,
CNBC, The Economist, Wall Street Journal and Marketwatch are all excellent news sources for business
changes.
Fourth paragraph: Consider the game theory part of the course. Identify a potential interconnected strategic
situation that may arise. Describe the players, payouts and possible prisoners’ dilemma. If your situation leads to a negative outcome, how could a manager reduce the costs, and if it’s a positive outcome game, how could a manager promote positive behavior?
Fifth paragraph: Reflect on your analysis in writing this paper. Are you still excited for this future career, or do
you now have some worries? Explain in a summative way with your future in mind.
