Policy and guidance in the Built Environment (focus on climate action- SDG13)
To produce a critical analysis of the current policy framework in relation to the delivery of sustainable built environments for Modular
Integrated Constructions in Hong Kong with specific reference to climate actions.
The sustainable development goals set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly was to provide a basis where sustaianbility
targets at local, national, and regional levels can be assessed. The 17 interlinked SDGs were to help to deliver sustainable future for all.
With just about 8 years to the target year (2030), it is important to begin to assess the success stories from one region to another.
One of the SDGs which has gathered wide attention is SDG13- climate actions as evident in series of international events notably is the
UN Climate change conference- COP26 that took place in 2021 in Glasgow. However, addressing this goal in the built environment /
construction sector requries some policies from the substantive and procedural perspectives which will guide the decision-making
process of new development to ensure that sustainability targets are met.
Undertake a critical review of policies, regulations, and acts that focus on climate actions (both mitigative and adaptive measures)
in Modular Integrated Construction in Hong Kong.
The good starting point for this activity is to establish the drivers for climate actions in that context with relevant examples.
After this, review the policies in that context from the substantive and procedural perspectives.
Which is contained in the policies and the procedures (stages) expected to be followed by a new development.
Submission should included:
1. Details of the current sustainability policy framework with respect to climate Actions
2. A critical review of some of the barriers to the uptake of these policies (actions) in your chosen context.
3. Provided a comparison of this framework with the appraoach taken in other regions identifying similarities or differences.
4. A proposal for a future oriented framework taking into consideration the barriers of existing policies and lessons from other
regions.
