You should critically discuss recommended evidence based treatment interventions and the theoretical constructs and rationale which underpin them.  
A critique of the approach based on current literature should be provided, with reference to evidence-based practice, effectiveness, and limitations.

 We need to say a lot more about risk of harm to self and others in this essay. Include information about the risk of suicide among people with PTSD, and detail some of the ways the therapist can be alert to this risk and how to assess for it. Include some interventions that could be used in session, like Safety Planning, as well as saying that the person should be referred on or other relevant people should be involved if the suicide risk can’t be managed in the therapeutic session. Also mention that the client should be made aware that their confidentiality agreement would need to be broken if this happened.
-You’ve given a lot of info on the risk of developing PTSD – this could fit in the assessment portion of the essay, as factors contributing to development of PTSD, more than the “risk” portion.
– The layout of the treatment portion of the essay could be tightened up. Try structuring it like this:
1. What the NICE guidelines suggest for treating PTSD, eg. how many sessions of BT therapy? Maybe add something that Matrix says about how to treat, as well?
2. What is the model for PTSD that a therapist woudl use with their client? Talk about the Ehlers Clark model, and give a citation. Include, why is socialisation to the model important for successful therapy?
3. What the CBT manual says about how to treat PTSD. You could use the Treatment Protocol inputs from class for the basis of this and look at Leahy or Zayfert’s books for references. I can email you copies if you need them.
4. The interventions are mainly Prolonged Exposure and Cognitive Restructuring. Talk about these two interventions and link them to the theories they stem from (Two Factor Theory, Emotional Processing Theory, dual-representation theory (see the Trauma Theory pt 2 input from class) and give references for the information)
5. We don’t have much space for talking about other interventions but you could mention ACT and NET towards the end as other modalities that might suit PTSD clients. Also EMDR could be mentioned here as it is in the NICE guidelines as well.
– could you include information about what factors contribute to successful therapy for trauma. Maybe mention that a lot of clients drop out of trauma therapy, why is this? Therapist competency is another important factor here, why is that important? CBT requires clients to do homework between sessions, does that have an impact on successful outcomes? Is there therapeutic relationship important for working on PTSD?
– Are there any outcome studies or facts you could include that show the effectiveness or limitations of trauma focussed CBT? Has it been shown to work, are the results maintained over time? It might not help some people, why would that be?
