You are not restricted solely to these sources. The university library contains an extensive range of material on the issues of HRM and relations between organizations and their employees, both in electronic form and in ‘hard copy’. Independent research, particularly through studying journal articles, is an important way of helping to achieve the assessment criteria for this module. One tip for locating more material is to see what authors have cited in their reference lists.

How much to read?
If you are concerned about the number of sources they should read and reference, here is no exact answer. The wider the reading, the greater the chance you will understand the issues you are being asked to discuss. Essays must be based on more than one source, and it is recommended that you read more than one textbook and several more specialist academic sources (journals, HR practitioner publications). Please remember that using, reading, and referencing material quoted in lectures is acceptable, but citing lecture slides is not!
Please list a minimum of 6 references from credible sources, using accurate Harvard referencing.
Material from Internet sources eg Wikipedia and the use of Google searches to obtain information are not academic sources and should NOT be used as an alternative for a properly researched and argued essay using academic sources. If you are unclear on the credibility or reliability of specific sites, please ask during your seminar.
