Please submit your homework with details as a single pdf file assignment before the due time. You need to answer all the questions.
(Remember JMP output is not your answer, you need to use the JMP output to answer the questions.) All the data used can be downloaded from the link
given in the syllabus (please refer to syllabus under Modules if you haven’t downloaded the data yet). Be sure to answer all of the questions.
Chapter 4:
1). One of nature’s patterns connects the percentage of adult birds in a colony that return from the previous year and the number of new adults that join
the colony. ex04-29sparrow.jmp has the data for 13 colonies of sparrowhawks
Plot the count of new adults (response) against the percentage of returning birds (explanatory). Describe the direction and form of the relationship. Is the
correlation r an appropriat measure of the strength of this relationship? If so, find r. (MP required)
2). ex05-40gtemps.jmp gives data on annual average global temperature anomalies (the difference between the average global temperature for a given
year and the average global temperature between 1901 and 2000, which was 13.9 degrees Celsius) from 1994 to 2018, in degrees Celsius.
a. Find the least-squares regression line for predicting average global temperature anomaly from year. Make a scatterplot and draw regression line on the
plot ( use JMP)
b. Explain in words what the slope of the regression line tells us.
c. Report the square for this model and interpret the value.
d. An environmentalist uses the line, based on the 25 years, to predict average global temperature anomaly in 2050. What is the prediction? Do you
think this prediction is reliable? Why?
