Watch the interview with Greta below:
What does Greta say about “social” behavior and its relation to the response to the climate crisis? What do you think about her claims? What does she say about the connection between individual and systemic responsibility? https://youtu.be/JT73puKg8cc
Back in the 1980’s and early 1990’s England’s Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher put climate change on the world’s agenda as one of the first major political figure to speak out. However she seemed to reject her own arguments shortly afterwards in her memoirs published in 2003. Here are a couple of articles that address the issue: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/blog/2013/apr/09/margaret-thatcher-green-hero https://theecologist.org/2018/oct/17/who-drove-thatchers-climate-change-u-turn
What systems are opposing climate activists according to Michael Mann? What is the difference between the “denialists” and the “doomists?” Which group (denialist/doomists) affected Margaret Thatcher? Which group is really affecting us now?

Discussion 2
Consider your experience reviewing the various movements that are roiling our society and culture, and in fact, the whole world. Compare the experience of climate crisis-which seems to be a conflict between nature and humankind. Aren’t we part of nature? Aren’t we already ruled by “natural law?” What should our response be? How can art and our conversations with each other be represented and modeled in ways that will encourage positive changes in our culture? How are you feeling about the future?
What are the voices that inspire you to believe that progress is possible in any of the thematic directions we’ve discussed this block? Care to share with a link? So we can listen/view too?
Here’s one of my own from a positive thinker about our ability to change the world for the better! http://breakthrough.unglobalcompact.org/briefs/paul-hawken-project-drawdown/
What do you think?
