· Reflect on a time you (or someone you know) were conversing with a friend or loved one when you noticed a positive communication that was an exception to the instrumental/relational gender norm as discussed in DeVito.
· Discuss the context and the exceptional communication quality that this communicator demonstrated. What would have been the gender norm? How did this communication outside of gender norms make others feel? What contextual factors facilitated this positive communication? What are the potential obstacles of either gender as it relates to this communication quality?
