Students will submit a plan of their possible research proposal (Summative Component) to their personal tutor which will act as a framework from which to develop the final assessed component. A 1:1 discussion of the plan will take place between student, their peers and module tutor in order to explore the any areas for development which will positively inform the final submitted work. Your one page plan should include:
Literature Review and Study Aims- a brief outline of the key literature sources you will draw on
Methodology-an explanation of the methodology you will include in your proposal and an explanation of an alternative methodology which you considered but chose not to adopt
Methods of Data Collection & Analysis- what data collection method you propose to use in your research proposal
Ethical Considerations- an outline of theoretical and practical issues informing your research proposal.
Develop a research proposal for a study which addresses an identified professional concern. This proposal should be located in the context of contemporary academic literature and address methodological and ethical issues. You should demonstrate skills of independence and originality in considering the most appropriate approach to take. (4500 words).
1. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the theory and practice of research in
education and training, including a range of different methodological and theoretical approaches
2. Critically appraise contemporary research literature in a specific area, drawn from
a variety of sources, and use it to identify and locate a research problem relevant to your professional practice
3. Demonstrate a critical understanding of a variety of research designs appropriate
to addressing identified professional issues.
4. Drawing on relevant literature, critically appraise and justify the choice of an
appropriate research methodology and ‘fit for purpose’ methods to apply to a
specific research problem.
5. Critically and reflexively explore ethical issues arising within the research area
and suggest strategies for their management.
The assignment must be submitted to the Blackboard Ultra site. Please use double line spacing and print on one side only. Word count (plus/minus 10%) must be noted at the end of the assignment.
Citation and referencing will follow the Harvard system (please ensure you use 11th edition of Cite Them Right and online guidance can also be accessed through library resources site).
Figures and appendices will not contribute towards the word count.
