The assignment is a written “essay” with 5 paragraphs (if you include an
introductory paragraph) including the following elements.
o Write one paragraph explaining the process and goal of DNA
fingerprinting as done in the lab
o Read a provided scientific paper and describe in one paragraph the
author’s point of view on the ethics and use of DNA collection, analysis
and evidence in criminal investigations
o Describe in one paragraph, the student’s views on the ethics of DNA
collection and fingerprinting for criminal cases (argument can be in
agreement or disagreement with the author of the scientific paper, but it
should refer to the scientific paper as comparison)
o Describe in one paragraph the student’s views on the ethics of DNA
identification versus right to privacy
o Describe in one paragraph how the DNA fingerprinting lab contributes to
the learning of crime lab techniques and how it will help the student
achieve individual career goals.
