Essay Directions:
Utilizing information learned in your IDS classes, write an essay addressing the following prompt statement.
Discuss an important concept or prominent figure from one of the disciplines: film or the study of fairy tale. The essay should utilize core terminology/vocabulary of the selected discipline in the discussion of the concept or prominent figure or concept. Please make sure that you do not simply summarize a text. A simple summary that shows no ability to think beyond the text will result in an unsatisfactory. You can discuss the concept of femininity, or masculinity, or beauty, or wealth, or family, society, history, etc.
Please be sure to use one of the articles given during the class to help you discuss the issue that you are advancing. Please make sure that you document appropriately when using your secondary source.
You can use any fairytale, any Cinderella story, or you may also use the film Guess Who and read it as a fairy tale.
(If you select to focus on a film, you have a choice of two films : Cinderella film or Guess Who is Coming to Dinner, both of which you can find on the library database under Swank. If you select to use Guess Who, please examine the film as a fairy tale.)
Your essay should be formatted as follows: Typed. Two pages/500 word minimum; double-spaced; 12 pt Times New Roman font; 1” margins.
Essays will be evaluated on the following criteria:
1. Knowledge and understanding of topic.
2. Ability to provide specific reasons of why topic is being discussed.
3. Use of frequent and direct references to main topic discussion points.
4. Use of Standard English writing conventions.
