Please choose one of the following topics to write about. These topics ask you be creative in applying the
course material you have learned. IMPORTANT: You must identify what topic number you choose on
the title page of your term paper!
1. Discuss the overall contributions, as well as the similarities and differences, of two of the theoretical
perspectives we have covered in the course.
2. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of contemporary sociological theory as a way to understand the
world in which we live.
3. Apply any of the theories and/or theoretical perspectives we have discussed in this course to a current
social issue. How does the theory illuminate the issue and give relevance to it in the context of
history?
4. Compare and contrast the structural–functionalist tradition and the conflict tradition. First, explain
how each differs from one another. Refer to the theorists from each tradition whenever applicable.
