Discussion 2: Motivation and the Ethics of Public Service – Intro to Public Administration

Public Service Motivation has been defined as “an individual’s predisposition to respond to motives grounded primarily or uniquely in public institutions” (Perry & Wise, 1990)

It reflects how certain individuals are more inclined towards activities that involve serving society or the common good in various fields and sectors. In accordance with this, identify and describe an example, incorporating elements from the reading and the video, of how public service motivation enhances the managerial competencies of public managers and can be used as a tool to improve the results of public organizations and citizen trust in government and public officials.
