Textbook: Human Sexuality in a Changing World 10E
Sexual orientation includes the attraction that a person feels toward a specific gender(s). While the
categories we use to describe someone’s orientation include heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual,
orientation may actually be experienced on a continuum (as described in your text by Kinsey).
After reading about Sexual Orientation in your text, consider the role of nature versus nurture in the resulting sexual orientation.
1) Do you think that sexual orientation is inborn and unfolds as you develop or do you think your upbringing/experience/environment is the most important factor in your sexual orientation? There is not a right or
wrong answer. I am asking that you explore the theories/studies presented in the reading and use the ideas presented to support your stance. I ask that you NOT provide philosophical or religious doctrine or texts as your support. While everyone may have belief systems that influence their opinion on the topic, this
discussion is not the forum for expressing those beliefs. I am looking for support from your textbook
readings. You are also welcome to use any academic, peer-reviewed, journals or sources to support your
idea if you prefer, providing appropriate citations and references for such.
2) Support your response with at least 3 in-text citations, citing EVIDENCE (ie not just opinion), to support
your stance.
