Many job seekers do not realize that the job and career site Glassdoor is a superb source of job-search information, postings, reviews, and salary data. Glassdoor provides anonymous posts by current and former employees revealing current information on company culture, salary comparisons, CEO approval ratings, interviews, and more. For authentic insider data about job interviews and other invaluable information, check out Glassdoor.
Let’s say you wish to know what LinkedIn is like as an employer and how happy applicants are with LinkedIn’s interview process. You would search for information about the company by its name and could refine your search by targeting a specific job title and location. You would see that at 4.4 (on a 5.0 scale), the career network has a high rating overall and that its CEO Ryan Roslansky has achieved an 86 percent approval rating—less than former CEO and current executive chairman Jeff Weiner, who had enjoyed 98 percent approval.
YOUR TASK. At the Glassdoor site (http://www.glassdoor.comLinks to an external site.), search for your dream employer. You can select from industries or search for companies by name. If desired, log in using your personal email account or you may use your TCC email account to log in. The log in process will take 5 to 10 minutes. Some of the information they are asking for can be skipped. Look for the SKIP button. Once you are logged in, click on Companies located on the menu located at the top of the screen. You can use the suggested companies or you can type a company’s name in the search box. When you find the desired company, click on the Reviews button next to their name.
For your initial post, create an informal report that will:
- List the name of the company.
- Discuss how many reviews were submitted, a couple of the reviews (good or bad) and interview modalities, if listed.
- How happy are interviewees and current workers with their employers?
- Did your findings surprise you? Why or why not?
- Include screenshots, if desired
