Learning Goal: I’m working on a philosophy discussion question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.
Reflect on this week’s readings, focusing on ecocentrism—the environmental worldview and philosophical perspective premised on the view that the natural world has intrinsic value. Consider the frameworks of either deep ecology or the land ethic and/or compare and contrast these views. Citing at least one of the readings with at least one direct quote and including page or paragraph number, consider one or more of the following questions in your response:
- Should ethical and moral concerns extend to ecosystems (beyond considering species or individuals–think beyond a biocentric framework)?
- How can we resolve potential conflicts between the needs of humans and those of More-than-Human Nature?
- Do humans have ethical obligations to preserve wildlands? How is ‘wildness’ or ‘wilderness’ defined in the US?
- How does the concept of a ‘land ethic’ differ from the way we typically think of ethics?
Next, create at least one discussion question based on any (or all) of the readings for this week.
Your post should be a minimum of 250 words, not including your discussion question. Please include your question at the end of your post and label it.
All the readings will be attached.
