In Brief:
This assessment is a 2000-word conference paper worth 40%. Assignment 1: Conference Paper. Your paper will need to be 2000 words (+/- 10%) long (excluding the end reference list). You should try to present a strong argument. In some academic writing exercises, you strive for a balanced approach. In this case, we want you to make an argument for a particular proposition backed up with appropriate references. While counterarguments can obviously be made, we want you to:
1. state your case strongly, making a consistent argument; and
2. then be prepared to defend it during the conference and
3. use the position to engage with other people’s papers.
In your conference paper,
1. state why what you say is the case, or why it should be the case;
2. comment on how your paper fits within your chosen stream, and
3. support your argument with appropriate references (using the APA referencing style throughout). Criteria for Assessment:
Students will be assessed on how well the conference paper:
– presents a strong, clear and coherent argument;
– is well-supported by peer-reviewed, scholarly research and appropriately referenced
– engages critically and meaningfully with the broad parameters of the conference and the selected
stream; and
– is professionally presented for the conference (appropriate grammar, expression and referencing
for this type of conference paper; follows the assignment instructions)
