American History
• Each student will research a topic concerning the body in American history, politics, law, and culture that was not focused on extensively in class. It is all right to choose a topic that we covered in class but examine it from a different angle or different aspects of it! For example, focus on abortion laws in the mid-19th century instead of the late 20th, or examine issues of eugenics in the Native American or Hispanic or African American populations post WWII.
• Students will write a 8-10 page paper examining this issue. This paper should have an analytical thesis and rely on a wide variety of scholarly sources to support its analysis. Primary sources, if available, are encouraged, and journalistic sources can also be useful.
• Students should get their topic approved by the instructor.
