Objectives for Assignment:
1. Interpret information from professional sources.
2. Explain how information from professional journals impacts upon the nursing plan of care.
3. Explore the use of professional journals as a mechanism for lifelong learning.
Directions to the Student:
1. The student will choose one article from a peer reviewed nursing journal, in the field of maternal newborn nursing or pediatrics, which was published within the last 5 years. A list of current hot topics in maternity and pediatric nursing will be provided. Each student must choose a different article.
2. The student will then write a journal analysis for the article.
3. The Journal analysis will include the following:
a. Summary of the article should include the purpose of the study, the population, sample size, data collection methods, instruments used and the findings from the study.
b. Analysis of the article: Is this a valid study based on the criteria for critiquing quantitative or qualitative studies? Why or why not? Is the discussion supported by findings? Do you think the article is evidence based? If so, or if not why?
c. Relevance to nursing: How can the information presented in this article be used in clinical practice to improve care in the maternity or pediatric setting? This section should reflect student’s critical thinking.
d. What were the limitations of the study? What would be your recommendations for improvement? This should reflect critical thinking and knowledge learned from nursing research and identification of limitations and recommendations outside of those identified by author.
4. See grading rubric for further details. Student must submit a copy of the article along with one copy of the paper on April 3, 2023 . The paper must also be submitted to Safe Assign before the start of class on due date. A hardcopy should also be handed in at the beginning of class on the due date. Ten points will be deducted for any paper that is not handed in at the beginning of class. The paper should be 6-8 pages; this does not include the reference and cover pages. Points will be deducted for papers that exceed the page limits.
5. APA7 format is required with level 1 and 2 headings.
6. Provide a copy of the grading rubric along with your paper or 1 point will be deducted.
Any paper with any evidence of plagiarism, whether intentional or unintentional will receive a ‘0’.
