Do you think the International Trade Commission should renew the antidumping tariff on frozen Chinese crawfish in the future? Why or why not? Do you think your answer is affected by you being the resident of Louisiana? Even with high tariff, the Chinese crawfish are making up over 80% of the market. Why?
STUDENT RESPONSE
I disagree that the tariffs should be lifted because keeping them in place still allows nearby farmers to sell their crawfish. I believe it’s fantastic because everything is so expensive, and crawfish sales would grow if the price was lower because more people could afford to buy them. The sole reason I believe they should remain is that, as US citizens, we should first support and promote American businesses before looking to other nations to help our economy. I really believe that a customer shouldn’t be intimidated into paying more for a good that is readily available for less money. Trade barriers must fall!
