Description
Why am I here?
Each one of you has a reason for starting your adventure towards an undergraduate degree in business. The reasons can be different for everyone. Completion of an undergraduate degree is not an easy task and takes strong commitment. To be successful, you should take some time to reflect on what motivates you and what communication skills you possess. You will enjoy many successes in your academic adventure, but as with any adventure you will have to endure some hardships. “Keep your eye on the prize”; in other words, keep things in perspective and look at your goal and what you must do to get there.
This assignment will also help to reinforce and apply the lessons from units 1 and 2. It will ask you key questions to help you understand what your motivation is for starting and completing your learning adventure.
In unit 2, you learned that emotional intelligence is a foundation of effective interpersonal communication, so you will also reflect on your own emotional intelligence in this assignment.
Learning is an adventure, just as much as embarking on a safari, or a hunt for archeological treasure. Let the adventure, or quest for knowledge begin!
Use the Individual Assignment 1 Template to create your assignment.
Requirements and Submission Instructions
Step 1: Refer to the Unit 1 and 2 readings.
Step 2: Apply what you learned from the readings about planning, researching, and writing an essay. Reflect on why you are here at Yorkville University and on your own communication skills.
Step 3 (Part 1): Consider the following as you explore why you are here:
- Why are you here? What motivated you to attend university? Evaluate your motivational value system according to question 2.17 on page 67 in the text. Use this as a guide. You do not need to include your entire evaluation in the essay…summarize your assessment.
- Why did you select a business program?
- Assess your own emotional intelligence by identifying your strengths and weaknesses according to question 2.10 on page 67 in the text. Use this as a guide. You do not need to include your entire evaluation in the essay…summarize your assessment.
- What is your goal when you complete your BBA degree?
- How will earning a BBA enhance your life?
- What are the benefits of pursuing your degree?
Your essay will address these questions within its body paragraphs. It is an essay, so write about the content in paragraph form. It is not a Question & Answer assignment. Your essay will be in APA format and will include a references list that includes any unit readings or websites searched for information related to the topic. The Purdue Owl website will help with formatting, citing, and referencing. While it is a reflective essay from your own experience, please include at least one reference in APA format, which can be a site used to stimulate your thoughts, the course textbook, and/or the APA resource guide.
Step 4 (Part 2): Now write a business letter to your employer. The purpose of the letter is to explain to your employer why you have decided to attend university and how it will benefit your organization and your performance in your role. Remember the differences between academic writing (part 1) and business writing (part 2) that you have read about in unit 1.
Step 5: Proof-read your document and use MS Word to check the spelling and grammar.
Step 6: Submit your MS Word document (use the provided template). Make note of the submission requirements.
