There are many critical international and domestic issues happening in the 21st century that are either
related or parallel to 20th century events. For this requirement, students are asked to:
Find a recent news article (no more than one year old) about a current event
Discuss and respond to how the article relates to an event, concept, or era covered in class
Reflect on why you chose the topic. Why is it important?
Provide analysis and critical thinking and not just a regurgitation of information
Write as if you are addressing an audience who cares to listen
No right or wrong answers
Guidelines:
Find an article from a credible source – avoid 24-hour news channels (Fox News, CNN, MSNBC,
etc.)… Also, avoid opinion articles (op-eds). If you are unsure of your source, please consult
with me
Format: 5 FULL pages (no less), typed, DOUBLE SPACED, and 12-point Times New Roman
font, one-inch margins.
Use course materials (lectures, readings, etc.)
Cite everything using footnotes (any style is ok as long as you stay consistent.
