- Select a topic that relates to the subject matter discussed in Module 3 – Chapter 11 (Education), Chapter 12 (Social & Economic Stratification) or Chapter 13 (Stratification, Minorities & Discrimination).
- Find a NEWS article that addresses an issue that demonstrates social inequality in our society. A news article is an article from a media source like a newspaper or magazine such as the New York Times, FOX, The Washington Post, VICE, etc. that addresses a current event. It does not include sources like Wikipedia, eHow, dictionaries, academic journals, or other information websites.
- After you find your initial article, do additional research on the topic. A minimum of three (3) sources is required in order for you to provide a good narrative on the subject. The additional sources can be website or other media articles outside of the textbook. The textbook material should be referenced, but you will not count toward the three (3) required sources.
- Must write a minimum 1500 word essay that answers the following questions:
- Based on the article you chose, how is social inequality described? How does it relate to the forms of stratification discussed in the book?
- According to the article, what are the consequences of the social inequality for the people experiencing it? How does it impact their life outcomes or opportunities?
- How can the form of social inequality be addressed so we can move towards a more fair and just society?
