Innovations in Healthcare Power Point Assignment
PURPOSE:
The purposes of this assignment are to identify a problem in your environment or microsystem in need of a solution and employ a systematic approach to problem identification and solution development through Design thinking module
LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
- Review module content
- Complete a PowerPoint Assignment based on the criteria below using the provided PowerPoint
- Conduct a literature search to locate evidence-based, scholarly articles to support the leadership strategies recommended in your PowerPoint presentation.
- Must follow slide count limitations. Do not put any information in the notes section below the slide.
- Do not do a narrated (voice over) presentation.
- Use no less than five (5) scholarly references. References should be put on the last slide(s). Cite the work on the appropriate slide(s).

PowerPoint REQUIREMENTS:
Introduction (10%) (1 slide)
- For each member of the team, provide your name, credentials, title, department/division on the “Introduction” slide. No need for a picture.
Design Thinking Slides (20%) (Slides 2, 3, 4, 5)
- These slides are specific and answer the following questions in sequence:
- Who are the patients? These patients or people are part of your microsystem. Describe the patients and their setting.
- What is the problem? Actual or perceived problem within your microsystem. Why is it a problem?
- What is the need? Explain if there is something that patients and/or clinicians need to solve the problem. In most all cases, there is a needs not being filled….thus the need.
- What is the benefit? Tell me the planned or anticipated outcomes or improvements. What benefit is it to address the need?
Innovation Development Plan: (30%) (6 slides)
- Based on your results from slides 2, 3, 4, & 5, develop a plan on how you will develop the project/innovation.
- In this section of the PPT presentation, be sure to address:
- TWO PLANS: Two (2) ideas of how to address the need. Think outside the box!! Format each plan as SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-based) goal. SMART is a format to clearly articulate the plan.
- STAKEHOLDERS for each plan: Stakeholders are important to to support your work and to achieve “buy-in”. The goal is for you to show how you identified the problem and need. Who will you work with to bring the ? What feedback or guidance might they provide? Is this information based on evidence? Example, we can’t simply say…” We want to discharge patients faster”. There is some background to this. What is the current time for discharge? What are the bottlenecks? Collaboration….teams and teamwork…..
- FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS for each plan: Briefly discuss potential or actual financial considerations for each plan. This can be a single slide with Plan A: implications include….and Plan: B implications include….Give as much details as you can. We know you will not have access to the detailed financials for the organization but you can identify the financial implications beyond “early discharge is good and saves money”.
- Use scholarly literature to support your strategies where applicable.

- Feel free to utilize the examples and additional content within the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSA) from each competency as a guide.
Implications for Practice: (15%) (2 slides)
- How does your leadership skills and abilities impact your ability to “drive” the change or innovation.
- How will you foster innovation in your clinical setting?
- What tools (within the course or elsewhere) can you use to empower the change and get buy-in.
Scholarship: (15%)
- Use sentence fragments and bullet points to avoid cluttering slides
- Avoid using the notes sections of the PPT slides
- All content should be properly formatted with correct grammar, spelling, logical flow, clear section.
- AVOID direct quotes – paraphrase cited work appropriately.
- AVOID PLAGIARISM. Make certain that all evidence based ideas and interventions are appropriately cited. You should dedicate slide(s) to display any references used. APA format is expected.
- You should use scholarly creativeness to present and highlight your work. The end product of your work should be ready for presentation to your organization’s executive leadership team. Points will be deducted for the failure to produce a presentation that demonstrates professional and scholarly work.
